The rising need for ground water in Uttar Pradesh can be attributed to the state's expanding industrial sector, more sophisticated agricultural technologies, and larger household water needs. This paper examines the regulations governing the accessibility of underground water in Uttar Pradesh and presents the results of an empirical study conducted in three districts (Mathura, Agra, and Aligarh) to ascertain the volume of underground water used for domestic purposes and to explore the variety of methods by which individuals and families replenish their supplies. The study shows that few families in these areas use methods like rainwater collection to replenish their water supply, while most residents instead rely on water from subterranean sources. Based on their research, the authors propose a number of strategic measures to fix the state of underground water in Uttar Pradesh.
