Abstract

There are significant ramifications for legal education in India as a result of the National Education Policy of 2020. In order to promote social and economic fairness and to fulfil the needs of India's growing workforce, the strategy strives to provide comprehensive and equitable education. In this article, we look at how India's law colleges have been affected by the National Education Policy 2020.

The strategy acknowledges the significance of legal education and suggests creating professional standard-setting bodies to manage it and incorporate it into the larger educational system. To ensure that colleges and law schools receive sufficient funding and subsidies, the proposed General Education Council underthe Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) must be in line with the objectives of law schools. In order to narrow the access to legal education gap between urban and rural communities, it is critical to support regional organisations. The NEP puts a lot of focus on developing successful institutions of higher learning that will facilitate the expansion of both public and private universities on an equal footing and making the greatest use of infrastructural resources. Regional organisations require assistance if they are to improve the quality of legal education at regional law schools. These colleges' curricula ought to be multidisciplinary, covering subjects like criminology, economics, political science, and philosophy. They should also emphasise practical instruction and internships to give students real-world legal experience.
